The main aim of this addition to their list is to offer much-needed help to those who need recipes for speedy preparation. Most take less than 30 minutes preparation. Recipes include stir-fries, salads, sandwiches, bean dips, soups, scones, pancakes and desserts. Almost all are vegan, with dairy products offered only as optional extras, though there is a separate section on fish and eggs. Winner of the 1995 James Beard Award for vegetarian cookbooks.

Moosewood, the vegetarian culinary collective ("Eighteen heads are better than one for some tasks") responsible for the restaurant of the same name in Ithaca, N.Y., offers an excellent third title to follow the popular Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant and New Recipes from Moosewood Restaurant . This one, unsurprisingly, concentrates on simple, healthful, easily prepared foods, though they are somewhat lighter in emphasis than were suggestions from the past; most dishes can be readied in half an hour or so, and organically grown ingredients are urged. Flavor is emphatically present, and so is an international bent. An Asian frittata, for instance, incorporates vegetables and adds a sauce including soy, rice wine, sesame oil and other Eastern staples, while baked peaches with Marsala is a dessert with an Italian tint. Broiled tofu may lead some diners to gag. However, the majority of the recipes will please non-purists, as well as the hard-core. An especially strong stew chapter offers entries with African, Caribbean, Hungarian, Greek, East Indian, Spanish, Italian and South American origins; chapters on pastas, salads and grains are similarly broad. Love this cookbook. I'm eating less meat and more fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds these days. Wasn't sure how to plan my menus towards this end, but Moosewood folks provide great ideas for achieving such a goal. Lots of vegetarian oriented recipes that I've seen elsewhere seemed so cumbersome and time-consuming that it ended up being easier to put a burger on the grill and just forget about my intentions to eat a healthier diet In contrast, these recipes are quick, delicious, and healthy. Haven't tried one recipe from this book that I didn't love.This has become a go-to source for me. I own other Moosewood cookbooks; this one is my favorite.

I've just ordered a hardcover copy of this cookbook because I love my old paperback one so much, it pretty much disintegrated. I'll have to copy over all my notes and comments like "Stinkin Stupendous!" "Grandkids ate it all", etc.Honestly, most of my family's favorite meals come from this Moosewood gem, like Cajun Skillet Beans with Spicy Kale and Corn Scones; Fragrant Rice Noodes with Vegetables (which we call Sunshine Stirfry); Pad Thai; Curried Vegetables with Dahl and Coconut Basmati Rice. When we started, we were trying to incorporate more vegetarian meals into our omnivore lifestyle. Now we eat WFPB (Whole Food Plant Based) exclusively and these recipes still rock our world, with a few adaptations. I couldn't recommend a cookbook higher!

Some vegetarian cookbooks have recipes with ingredients that are difficult to find or recipes that are long and complicated. I own many of those books and cook from them. But this is my go to book for planning week night meals. Some of the recipes are so simple, you wonder why you never thought of those kinds of combinations (like the sweet potato quesadillas and some of the pizza combinations). All ingredients can be purchased at your local grocery store, and depending on your level of cooking expertise, you can easily substitute one ingredient for another. I got this book for myself while visiting the Moosewood restaurant and wanted the book that had the chili recipe from that evening's meal. This is the book they suggested. (The chili recipe in here is awesome by the way - I add a little bit of chipotle to mine for a bit more heat.) Since that, I've given it to new vegetarians, new cooks and people who express interest in the food that I cook for them.

I bought this to replace one I had used so much it was falling apart. Great recipes! Especially the Red, Gold, Black and Green Chili. Our church group makes this once a month at a soup kitchen. The guests love it and it fits our budget! Many other great, easy to make recipes.

This is the most used vegetarian cookbook in my library. The recipes are reasonably fast, simple and tasty. I haven't been disappointed by a single recipe so far. Off to the side of each recipe the book gives you fuller menu options from other recipes in the book. It also gives you a brief description of just what it is that you are making. In addition to me being satisfied with the meals that come out of this book, my children (ages 4, 7, and 9) are also very satisfied. It is a big hit for the entire family. I find with most recipes that I can start making dinner at 5:00 and we can be seated and eating by 6:00. The recipes I've made so far are quite simple to make and most enjoyable to eat. My favourite recipe to date is the black bean soup. It is quick and easy to make if you use canned beans and produces a rich and satisfying meal that we all love. This is definitely a great cookbook for anybody, but especially for somebody that doesn't have several hours to spend on making dinner.

This is a simpler version of Moosewood cooking ideas. Quick to put together. Specific suggestions for combining dishes into a complete meal. These reciipes are easily adaptable to use substitute items if something is not on hand.

One of the Moosewood books I got earlier (the soups and salads book) has numerous unappealing recipes, and I probably won't use it. This one is a pleasant surprise. Although I haven't tried any recipes yet, I know what appeals to me, and this has some great recipes, including many easy ones that don't require lengthy preparation or difficult to obtain, or expensive, ingredients. I started jotting down some page #s and recipe titles that I want to make, and I had to stop because I like so many. :-) I'm very glad I got this book.

I bought this for myself over a year ago and every recipe I've tried has been at least 'good', but most are fantastic! The calories are listed along with the time it takes to prep. The ingredients are natural foods - things you can feel good about eating. The bulk of the recipes are vegetarian (not vegan - dairy and eggs are used), but there are some fish recipes as well. I liked the recipes so much that I bought a copy for my mother and for my cousin.
