Crafty Cat (aka Birdie) is super excited for the class play about insects. She is going to be the star, the butterfly. But when she shows up at school, she discovers that seven of her classmates also think theyâ€™re going to be the butterfly. Their teacher says each person needs to pick a different insect. Most of the kids decide on another insect and give up their butterfly dreams, but not Birdie and not Anya. Their teacher says they have to work out between them who will get to be the butterfly. Can they figure things out so everyone is happy and can the class pull off the play successfully?Birdieâ€™s crafty skills come in handy a number of times throughout this story. They help her calm down. They help her prove that other things can be cute besides butterflies. And they help her save the play (but sorry, no spoilers as to how). Craft and art skills donâ€™t often get the spotlight for saving the day in kidsâ€™ books, so this is a graphic novel for lower grades perfect for the artsy readers. Thereâ€™s no need to read other books in the Crafty Cat series in order to get this story, but if readers get into this one, they will likely be thrilled to know there are more.I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The second book in this series was not the best, but this installment brought it back for me. In this issue, Birdie wants to be the butterfly in her school play but another girl in her class wants it too, she must find a way to accept the possibility of not being the part she wants. I liked Birdie/ Crafty Cat in this issue again, she wanted something, couldn't have it, and handled it very well and I think that is a great lesson for younger readers. Anya the other girl in the issue is always the troublemaker and she is kind of a brat, I think that these books should take more time emphasizing that her behavior is not acceptable, but as long as our main character Birdie is a positive role model I think that is something.In this issue there are also loads of great crafts, and it is probably my favorite thing about these graphic novels is the crafts - we have bookmarks, lanterns, and butterfly clip craft templates that all look like a lot of fun.If you have a kid that loves crafts this is a great series for them and the instructions tell you everything you need.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it. Birdie is battling her nemesis Anya for the lead in the school play they both want to be a butterfly after everyone picks different insects to be in the school play. Birdie realizes she is becoming Anya and takes the caterpillar role. What a great story about compromise and learning to deal with difficult people all for the greater good.

WOW!This is such a great book.I hope to see more of one of the crafty cats series
